Okami – Reverse engineering

A long years ago, I had a website called okamihackingtools, where I explained how to extract ressources from Okami Wii game and what tools you needs to.

The time has passed and one year after the release of Okami PC portage, I want to continue what I started with my old website.

1 – Plateforms

Okami was release on many platforms:

  1. Playstation 2
  2. FilesNintendo Wii
  3. Playstation 3
  4. PC, PlayStation 4 and XBox Zone
  5. Nintendo Switch

There is also an Okami sequel called Okamiden, Nintendo DS exclusive.

In this article, I will only cover the Ps2, Wii and Pc version.

In fact, the game filesystem is pretty much the same on every platforms. File formats has’nt changed from the first PlayStation 2 release.

2 – PC portage

2.1 – Identify the game folder location

Luckyly (or because this is the PC versions) we don’t need to extract files. There are already unpacked.

If you buy the game (sure you have !), the Okami folder is, by default located in your steamapps folder. Usually

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\

For Linux users with proton, the default location is

~/.local/share/steam/steamapps/

2.2 – Filesystem

2.2.1 – File arborescence

This part is common between PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Wii and PC versions.

A simple note about the PC version:

On the PC version (is this the same with XboxOne and PlayStation 4 releases ?), files are encrypted.

Thanks to a Xentax Forum member name who wrote a tool to encrypt / decrypt Okami file easyly.

So before before doing anything with those files, don’t forget to decrypt them.

2.2.2 – Files format

As the previous part, this one is also common between the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Wii and PC versions.

3 – Ressources

3.1 – Graphics
